5 Reasons To Switch To Propane

Annie Herrera

Propane has numerous advantages over natural gas, while still serving as a powerful fuel source. Learn more by reading our article on 5 reasons to switch to propane.

1. American-Made

90% of the propane used by Americans comes from America, meaning buying propane supports American business. North America makes enough propane (2 million barrels a day) to meet demand while still exporting 1 million barrels daily to other countries, further contributing to the American economy.  Since miners drill locally, consumers pay less in tariffs and transportation costs, too.

2. Home Delivery

Get propane delivered to your home every week or month, depending on your needs. You can sign up for automatic service to ensure you never forget. The price can automatically come out of your account on your desired date. Alternatively, you can ask for an invoice once a month. Either way, you won't have to worry about refilling propane tanks yourself. Propane refill companies will also help you recycle old propane tanks and replace them when necessary without you lifting a finger.

3. Use Less Fuel

The energy produced by natural gas and propane is measured in BTUs (British Thermal Units). A job like heating a grill or home to a particular temperature requires a specific amount of BTUs. For each unit of propane, you get more BTUs (2520 BTUs per cubic foot) than natural gas (1012 BTUs per cubic foot). You need less propane to produce equal energy as natural gas.

4. Eco-Friendly

The mining and burning of natural gas emit pollution into the air. The government recognizes propane as a clean energy source in accordance with the 1990 Clean Air Act since it does not release sulfur dioxide, methane, nitrogen oxides, or other dangerous materials found in natural gas. It does, however, emit small amounts of carbon monoxide.

5. Stable Prices

Propane costs more than natural gas. However, natural gas prices fluctuate much more unpredictably than propane. Furthermore, while natural gas comes cheap, it also contributes to foreign economies instead of supporting a local economy. Perhaps, if more people use propane residentially, it can eventually be produced at lower rates in the United States.

If you live in a home with no natural gas supply or you decided to make the change on your own, you'll need propane delivery. Don't forget to increase your delivery during the winter months.
